6th Army Campaign
posted 209 days and 4 hours ago
Top scenario designer Tom Weber has finished a huge and highly appreciated effort in creating a full blown ww2 campaign. You take command of the German 6th Army from the invasion of Belgium all the way to its encirclement and defeat in Stalingrad. 10 battle scenarios and 2 refit scenarios are linked in this exciting campaign.

Development Update August 2009
posted 341 days and 11 hours ago
Hi everybody! I promised to write up a little update every month. That promise I did not quite keep. However good news is development is still going on at a breakneck pace. Some ambitions might be down tuned a bit like the number of initial scenarios, but all in all its shaping up to bring a lot of new features to the engine. I am not going to call a release date because that always ends in tears, but I can say I went past the halfway point some time ago.
In this development update I want to give some info on one of the new features. And that feature is the return of officers. You might remember these guys from Peoples Tactics. I cut them out to save work for Advanced Tactics. But now I decided to give them a comeback opportunity. They will lead the staff in the HQs and give additional bonuses and sometimes penalties to the troops under command.
Officers will now and then receive personal actioncards. Cards can for example speed up certain troops, give defence bonuses or raise morale. These cards the officer can then play on the right unit on the right time. Also some officers will be subject to certain auto-events that for example can cause them to give orders without your approval.
They give the historical scenarios an even more historical feel. Seeing Heinz Guderian in command of XIX Panzer Corps and seeing him use his unique abilities to send the 1st Panzer Division just that extra 20 miles ahead of the bulk of the forces feels right.
But the random games will support officers too. There you will be able to change officers and recruit new ones into the officerpool. In the random games the officers will level up when they have gathered enough experience on the battlefield. Levelling up will raise their bonuses and the amount of actioncards they’ll be able to play.
Furthermore the engine will allow full modding of how officers are used and what sort of actioncards they can play and auto-events they can trigger. The amount of options this opens up for scenario designers is huge.
Well so far the sneak peak. Next development update I’ll discuss another new feature!
Kind regards,
Vic

Development Update & Looking for historians
posted 446 days and 5 hours ago
Hi everybody! I want to be a little more open about what games the future might bring. I have considered doing a HPS-like secrecy policy and announcing a title when its done, but considered it to be... aahh.. to secretive.
It's a better in my opinion to give some information about what games are being worked upon. I realize doing this brings the inherent danger of some disappointments. Because not everything worked upon, will also be finished. But on the other hand it will bring some good suggestions, input and hopefully help too. Having made that disclaimer now lets go to the development progress update.
Serious work is underway on a much more grognard style operational ww2 game. This title is planned to put the player in the shoes of the German High Command.
Poland, France, Sea Lion, Africa, Leningrad, Moscow and Stalingrad scenarios are planned to be linked through a well researched campaign with interesting historical dialogue and operational discussion. The scenarios hex scale is about 10kms, Unit scale regimental, troops are modeled in exact numbers and with historical equipment. Historical generals are planned to be included on Corps level and above. Gameplay and rules are made more historical too. Examples of this include divisional cooperation bonuses and shattering of units. Also a completely fresh AI for these quite big scenarios is in the making.
At the same time the game will still give backwards compatibility to any Advanced Tactics scenarios and have the familiar old random game option. It will add new much awaited features too. Among others i am working on alliances that enable players to share hexes and trace supply and production routes through allied territories.
Furthermore i am planning to make sure a good quality manual will be included.
For this game I am looking for some specific help. I could use some (hobby) historians with experience and good military history knowledge to check, comment and help collect my OOBs, Equipment Statistics, Maps, General ratings and special abilities and Scenario Variants and events. If you are interested send a mail to vic@xs4all.nl with some motivation why you want to help and description of what you consider your expertise. (these are volunteer positions) Progress is slow so for the moment i am specifically looking for expertise on the (a) Poland campaign, (b) The campaign against the Low countries and France and (c) Sea Lion. Expertise on Polish, Dutch, Belgium, English and French forces is a big welcome at this stage. It will be a few months, at least, until I start on the Africa and Russia scenarios.
I hope to get this title finished around end of 2009, start of 2010.
I hope to do monthly update on de the development progress.
Kind regards,
Vic
